Dhoni shocked every cricket fans by announcing his retirement from the Test match back in 2014 when India lost some test matches away from home. Although, it was reasonable as India wasn’t able to perform well during that time in the test matches. Plus, his batting performance was affecting the team as well. But still, he is one of the best finishers in the limited over cricket. He can turn the match result with his instinct and calmness.
On the other side, Viral Kohli made India no. 1 in the test rankings after taking the responsibility from Dhoni. It should have helped Dhoni for quitting captaincy of ODI and T20I and handing over to a competent man.
There is a caution with this announcement as his place could be doubtful after stepping down as captain. Becuase there are players like Rishabh Pant doing performing well in the domestic matches.
It could be a wise decision for the rest of his career as well if you look at it in another way. He is the most successful captain of team India of all time. But now, Dhoni can focus on his batting solely without thinking about game strategies.

He won’t be attending any pre and post match conferences which he dislikes. No need to go out there for tosses and check out pitch condition and make team decisions anymore.
He can just wear his gloves and focus on his wicketkeeping and his batting performance. We hope that this decision came from him just like the test retirement without any influence from anywhere else.
It could be an excellent news if the former captain is trying to regain his best batting form in ODI and T20 like before. He has many winning knocks under his belt for team India. We hope to see that kind of batting once again in the upcoming matches from MS Dhoni.
Just imagine Kohli and Dhoni batting at 3 and 4th position. It will be a nightmare for the opposition team. We hope that MS Dhoni’s decision will be a positive sign for team India in ODI and T20.
