All eyes will be on MS Dhoni’s performance in the upcoming ODI against England on 15th January at The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. It is going to the match after stepping down as captain from all formats for the wicketkeeper-batsman.
Dhoni must show his batting skill as he is just a batsman for the team. Nothing more, nothing less. His place could be in jeopardy if he can’t perform well in the upcoming ODIs and T20Is.
As we all know that Virat Kohli is the new full-time captain of all formats from now on. India became no. test team under his leadership. So, there’s no question that he is the most suitable candidate to become captain after MS Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh is also making a comeback to the T20 squad against England. He will be itching to show his strength at home.
The BCCI selected the most suitable players for ODIs and T20 series including new and experienced players in the squad. It’s the best time to arrange the team to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy in the UK in June.
Indian batting line-up is looking strong. You may need to worry too much when you have the top batsman like Virat Kohli in the top order. Rohit Sharma is recovering from his injury while Shikhar Dhawan got a chance despite in the ODI squad. On the other side, KL Rahul has been very impressive in all formats recently. Ajinkya Rahane must perform if he wants to secure his spot for the Champions Trophy.
The middle order is looking solid with Dhoni, Yuvraj, Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav. But the match result will depend on the Indian bowlers after all. The Indian seamers are Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav along with Hardik Pandya while Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra are going to manage the spin department. Also, Yuvraj Singh can bowl some overs in the middle overs.
England team must perform with the bat whether it’s Alex Hales, Jason Roy Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings.
They have to find a proper balance between attack and defence to play against the Indian pacers and spinners. But still, it will be a challenging task to survive against Indian spinners.
